Sea Life Sydney Aquarium – Conservation Research Lab

Situation: Sydney Aquarium new marine research laboratory required a raised FRP Floor, tank frames and non-conductive FRP GPO power stands.

The Task: Design, fabricate and install Staircare SC-R mini mesh raised floor at 240mm floor height sitting on adjustable floor  pedestals spaced at 600mm centers for a floor loading of 5kPa to conform for public access.  The room also included a wheel chair access ramp and a number of non-conductive FRP GPO power stands

Certification: SC-R Mini Mesh raised floor conforms to:

  • AS1170.0 and AS1170.1 Structural Design Actions
  • AS1657 – 2018 Fixed Platforms, Walkways, Stairways and Ladders – Design, Construction and Installation
  • AS4586 – 2013 Slip Resistance of New Pedestrian Surface Materials

Result: The SC-R floor and FRP equipment installation was successfully completed on time in this corrosive marine research environment.  The lab is also made available for public behind the scene tours.
