Situation: Replacement of large old distorted timber staircase, leading from carpark through bush to sailing club, Northbridge.
The Task: Design, fabricate and install 2.3meter wide FRP staircase with 3 flights, landings and handrails with a total of 36 steps over a bush embankment to the sailing club timber wharf.
The entire staircase was built with Staircare SC-R fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) profiles. Including C-section stringers that have been installed underslung to allow for an uninterrupted 2.3meter SC-R mini mesh stair tread with a solid nosing strip and silicon carbide anit slip grit. All other support frames, structures and handrails have been built with Staircare SC-R profiles and stainless steel SS316 fixings
Certification: Staircare FRP Staircase and handrail conforms with:-
- AS 1657:2018: Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders – Design, construction and installation.
- AS1170.1 – 1989 – minimum design loads on structures
- AS 4586:2013 – Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials
Result: The Staircare SC-R staircase system installed offers a safe, non-slip, wide stair access that allows carrying of kayaks, canoes and other boating equipment.
Staircare SC-R stairs are particularly suited for saltwater and marine environments.
