Situation
Bexley North Train Station Accessibility Upgrade for Arenco (NSW) Pty Limited
The Task
Replace existing concrete footbridge panels with fibreglass panels. Design, supply and install Staircare SC-R top cover FRP grating Panels 38 x 38 square mesh with heavy duty load bars and 5mm thick top cover plate. The silicon carbide anti slip grit provides a Class P5 slip rating. The 1476mm wide SC-R panels had to be load tested and complied with AS1657-2018 Appendix D and the clients’ specific requirements for 5kPa distributed panel load. FRP top cover grating panels have been installed on FRP 50 x 50 angle supports to achieve a smooth pedestrian walking surface.
Certification
Staircare SC-R top cover grating walkway conforms to:
- AS 1657:2018: Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders – Design, construction and installation.
- AS 4586:2013: Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials
- AS1170.1-2002: Structural design actions.
Result
The entire 40 metre long concrete walkway was replaced with SC-R top cover FRP grating over two nights. Staircare worked closely with Arenco site personnel, this cooperation ensured a safe, smooth, efficient and on time completion to achieve a top quality finish.
